Experience the magic of Christmas with this wonderful opportunity to see Holkham Hall adorned with festive decorations and flickering candlelight. The halls will be decked and lit with hundreds of candles in readiness for you to celebrate Christmas and tour the hall by candlelight. This is a truly magical opportunity to relish the magnificent state rooms adorned with opulent Christmas decorations and beautiful flickering candlelight. Lady Leicester, together with Christmas-connoisseur Catherine Zoll, spend the entire year designing the sets and themes for your enjoyment and we look forward to sharing this year’s themes with you a little closer to the time. We include a glass of bubbly, or a soft drink, and mince pie before your tour. The Gift Shop will be open for special decorations and those perfect presents for your loved ones. The Courtyard Café will also be open, with delicious, seasonal offers. With a stunning location on the north Norfolk coast and at the heart of a thriving 25,000 acre estate, Holkham Hall is described as an exceptional place, rich in history, architecture and wildlife. The seat of the Earls of Leicester, this elegant 18th century mansion is still very much a lived-in family home which the family take pride in sharing with visitors. The hall is an elegant 18th century Palladian style house, based on designs by William Kent and built by Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester. The Marble Hall is a spectacular introduction to this imposing building, with its 50ft pressed plaster dome ceiling and walls of English alabaster, not marble as its name implies. Stairs lead to magnificent state rooms displaying superb collections of ancient statuary, original furniture, tapestries and paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Claude, Gaspar Poussin and Gainsborough.
